Pretzel has been founded in 2015 by Mary Bakarich and Markus Winkler. These two first-time entrepreneurs worked together for many years in marketing communications prior to founding Pretzel. They’ve combined their complementary skills – brand strategy and coding – and worked for the past two years developing the app. The team says their biggest advantage in developing an app for cultural discovery is actually their personal stories. Winkler is Austrian and Bakarich is American. Both speak more than one language and love living in the cultural melting pot of New York City.
