First Step Coding is a unique part-time bootcamp PREP program designed to teach students coding fundamentals and get them into a top immersive bootcamp. Thanks to our partnerships with 8+ bootcamps, this program is in some cases completely free! In just 4 weeks, our students are ready to pass coding challenges at the most selective bootcamps. Our graduates have been admitted to App Academy, Hack Reactor, Rithm School, Galvanize, Berkeley's extension program, Flatiron School, Fullstack Academy, General Assembly, and more great programs. Classes are in-person or online and capped at just 14 students with a 6:1 or better ratio of students to teachers. Hands-on pair programming exercises make up the bulk of class time. After taking this course, students are able to: • Solve common coding problems with JavaScript that are likely to appear in your projects and bootcamp interview questions. • Approach problems with an engineering mindset and methods: deconstructing a problem, isolation, test-driven development, and debugging. • Speak like a programmer and find answers to your questions quickly by mastering the foundational terminology and tools. • Tap into a real API and manipulate real data with your code. • Create an interactive text-based game that keeps a score. • Rapidly learn related and more advanced coding topics that build on your foundation. • Clearly understand your options for continuing your coding education by speaking with bootcamp veterans. • Launch a live hosted web application using the techniques and tools you've learned!
