Design Vault is a project I’ve been working on for a while, it’s a curated collection of UI patterns & design inspiration from real products. There are of course many other similar pattern libraries that already exist, but in my experience, I’ve found they all have the same problem – they focus exclusively on mobile. It’s common knowledge that people interact with mobile far more than any other device, but interfaces span beyond just mobile – and with different screen sizes and input methods come different interaction types. So where possible, as well as capturing shots from mobile I’m trying to index patterns from websites, web-apps, and other device types. Websites like Dribbble are a good source of inspiration but are often all style and no substance. Shots are created for likes and don’t solve real user experience issues. Design Vault only indexes shots from real, live products. You can browse shots by app, or pattern. I’ve also included some filtering mechanisms so you can quickly find specific types of UI patterns. Right now I’m focussed on adding as much content as I can to the library, once it’s a little more populated I’ll shift to adding new content weekly alongside developing some new features including videos of user flows. This is just the beginning of what I hope will become a useful tool for Designers, Developers and Product Managers.
