Aster Mail is encrypted email that actually respects your privacy. Not in the "we promise we won't look" kind of way, in the "we literally cannot look even if someone made us" kind of way. Everything gets encrypted on your device before it ever touches our servers. We don't hold the keys. We can't read your emails. We're fully open source under AGPL v3. That means you don't have to take our word for any of this, you can go read the code yourself. We picked AGPL specifically because it's the strongest copyleft license out there. Nobody can fork our code, strip out the privacy protections, and close the source. If they use it, they have to keep it open. Why does Aster exist? Because right now, if you want encrypted email, you've basically got one real option. When Skiff got acquired and shut down, it proved that users need more choices, not fewer. We think competition in this space makes everyone better, more options, better products, lower prices. A few companies shouldn't be the gatekeeper for private email. We also built Aster to be something normal people can actually use. You don't need to understand PGP or manage keys manually. You sign up, and encryption just works in the background. Privacy tools are useless if they're too complicated for regular people to bother with. We're a small, independent team. No venture capital breathing down our necks. No investors pushing us to monetize your data. Just a group of people who think your inbox should be yours and nobody else's.
