ASHA Box is feminist based grass roots organization that seeks to empower marginalized women in fragile states as well as protect infants from malaria. ASHA Box aims to bring medical necessities to women located in rural and remote areas, who otherwise would not have access to health care facilities or expertise. ASHA Box is a cardboard box that is designed to help combat high infant mortality rates in sub-Saharan Africa due to malaria. It is based on the idea of the Finnish baby box, with a mattress at the bottom of the box, but differs due to an insecticidal treated net attached to the top. The box acts as a baby's first bed. Additionally, since each net has a life span of 2-3 years, the boxes can be used by multiple babies-either in the family or passed on into the community.
